Revheads Performance Supplies originally started in 1969 as Discount Auto Equipment by Vic and Val Blomer. An icon of Brisbane known all round Australia, originally well known identity as the "Black Shop on top of Camp Hill", Brisbane.
The Blomers operated this unique business selling new and second hand parts, wheels, tyres and spoilers, batteries along with performance and speed equipment. Vic's passion was collecting and restoring old rare automobiles.
In 1979 the Blomers sold their business to today's current owner, John Kangan, a well-known champion racer of inboard powerboats in circuit, drag and ski racing. Some of his boats were "Untamed, Lady Luck, Foxy, Revenge, Do-It-To-Me ( a picklefork hydroplane this ran a bb chev with twin tunnels mainly a draft race boat speed of approx 120mph), Pharaoh, Kwit-ya-Bitchen, Villian, Egyptian, Firefly, Berty and Deliverance (it was a rear engined 350 small block chev with twin tunnel set up ski race boat top speed was approx 87 mph). Preferred power plant being small block chev 5 litre highly modified. There is nothing like feeling the thrust of pure horsepower under your feet. Johno has a vast, extensive knowledge within the auto industry where service has always been the name of the game.
Prior to purchasing Discount Auto Equipment, he successfully operated two service stations and workshops for some 12 years. He was a service manager for two marine dealerships and has been in the auto business for 40 years specialising mainly in small block Chevs injected and blown. John's automotive experience and knowledge is vast – auto and marine mechanic by trade. Whilst being an accredited outboard technician he prefers the pure adrenalin associated which comes from raw V8 horsepower and grunt.
John operated at Camp Hill (the black shop) till July 1986 (16 years) when he expanded to larger two storey premises (12 times) at 212 Logan Road, Buranda (the adjoining suburb) with large showroom upstairs and workshop facility below, so that in the good service tradition they could supply and fit. The display counters were 150 feet long. DAE operated here until July 1991 when he purchased his own building and moved to smaller premises at 5 Holden Street, Woolloongabba – just around the corner near the Gabbaa cricket ground where the "Lions" roar.
This decision was mainly due to unreasonable landlord demands, economic times and the inability to find competent, experienced and reliable mechanics and sales staff. Johno required expert knowledge and quality service be delivered to his loyal and valuable client base. In 1994 Johno created the "mail order warehouse" side of his business in Holden St, currently known today as "Revheads Performance Supplies" (Queensland's oldest remaining true speed shop) specialising in spoilers, scoops, flares, locating hard to find parts for 4-6-V8 popular cars, new and second hand performance and speed equipment supplies, camshafts, timing chains and gears, stroker kits, inlet manifolds, carbies, air cleaners, extractors, distributors, ignition leads, specialty spark plugs, oil pumps, sumps, cylinder heads, gilmer belt drives, gauges, steering wheels and boss kits.
Specialising in locating and sourcing hard to get goods in Australia and USA, with contacts for importing high performance car parts thereby offering to you a complete and affordable service. We do not say we are the cheapest on every single product purchased, but overall packages and services are head and shoulders above the short term come and go businesses. Price based operations do not stand the test of time. People remember the quality of the service long after the price is forgotten. Today Revheads have customers spanning three generations coming to them to solve their problems within and outside Australia. Nowadays, with GST issues and 90 days warranty on used parts regulations, we offer our clients a buy and sell brokerage service with finance and credit card facilities available to help all parties receive their results. Nine times out of ten clients have old parts which they wish to dispose of giving them funds to purchase items they are looking for.
For a small placement fee their items can be inserted as a service buy and sell. The first five days are "free"; after that a fee of $2.00 per item per day in blocks of 7 days. For that you are listing in the enthusiastic, specific niche market. Revheads will be reintroducing their Supa Saver Club to reward clients for their loyal support. Members who support us by regular purchases can benefit by obtaining further discounts.
In June 2001 Johno realized with the advent of modern technology, the way of the future was to start setting up a web based operation. His vision was to have a fully integrated "e" commerce business and take the unique service worldwide. In dealing with Revheads you can be assured and confident that you are dealing with experienced and knowledgable people who can supply speedy awesome service. However, the only hold up which we cannot control is prompt supply from our suppliers (only some). Purchases are available via an accredited secure service for your peace of mind. In June 2001 Revheads was able to set up an association with an Australian buyer who makes regular buying excursions to USA for the purpose of obtaining and sourcing additional supplies of second hand performance and speed equipment as well as classic automobiles and hotrods.
Sadly in May 2002 Vic Blomer passed away after a very long illness. At the end of 2005 we closed the door to our walk in store at Holden Street to allow us to concentrate on our mail order warehouse and to further develop our own online store.
